Quite some months ago I sat in a bar and heard of a dream shared by two nurses to visit Iceland extensively, a one month trip through the some of the worlds most beautiful natural wonders, they said. I thought, hey, Iceland must be different, fashion photographers have gone there for specific shoots and all. Ok, I expect it's a rough beauty with some desolate places, but I didn't fully understand the mote behind their shared dream. Now that I've seen Heima, from Sigur Rós, I more than understand their dream. I don't know if meanwhile those two nurses did their trip but I'm hatching my own dream of going there (not so unexpected, as recently, I've been attracted more and more to the lands of the farther North, specially after visiting Denmark).
Asside from dreaming we should see the reality, Iceland is only a few degreees from Portugal (temperature and latitude-wise). It even has it's own controversial dam story, their's is Alcoa, ours was Alqueva.
Let's see if we can make it on time before the ice melts...

I really miss those Analog Days
I might be trying to re-enact those with my evenings without the laptop, watching black and white movies (would be on a VCR if it still worked) and reading in my lay-back comfy sofa.
Btw, Analog Days was an indie movie I saw at Indie Lisboa a while ago. It tells the story of a group of teenagers that only listened to music in analog players (cassettes, vinyl, etc.). It came to mind because I feel better when I'm way from computers, tvs and all kinds of electronic gadgets. That's when I feel auto-sufficient and liberated.

The last few concerts that I attended are giving me much to digest, and I have a very slow digestion pace...
Today I'm posting photos from Ra Ra Riot and Sigur Rós's concerts. Two contrasting events I attended just a day apart.
At the same time I'm listening for the first time to () by Sigur Rós in a state of languid happy grief.

First came soft, still pretty dense, colors.
Then, the festival began, like a sugary kaleidoscope.
But there was always time to breathe... very deeply.
And they brought friends.

Dear brothers and sisters
dear enemies and friends
Why are we all so alone here?
All we need is a little more hope, a little more joy
All we need is a little more light, a little less weight, a little more freedom.
If we were an army, and if we believed that we were an army
And we believed that everyone was scared like little lost children in their grown up clothes and poses
So we ended up alone here floating through long wasted days, or great tribulations.
While everything felt wrong
Good words, strong words, words that could've moved mountains
Words that no one ever said
We were all waiting to hear those words and no one ever said them
And the tactics never hatched
And the plans were never mapped
And we all learned not to believe
And strange lonesome monsters loafed through the hills wondering why
And it is best to never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever wonder why
So tangle - oh tangle us up in bright red ribbons!
Let's have a parade
It's been so long since we had a parade, so let's have a parade!
Let's invite all our friends
And all our friends' friends!
Let's promenade down the boulevards with terrific pride and light in our eyes
Twelve feet tall and staggering
Sick with joy with the angels there and light in our eyes
Brothers and sisters, hope still waits in the wings like a bitter spinster
Impatient, lonely and shivering, waiting to build her glorious fires
It's because of our plans man; our beautiful ridiculous plans
Let's launch them like careening Jet Planes
Let's crash all our planes in the river
Let's build strange and radiant machines at this Jericho waiting to fall!
This is a splendid narration in a dramatic piece. I'm still digesting their wonderful concert.
By the way (of music), I was surprised with the low attendance to Ra Ra Riot's concert in Lisbon yesterday. I really expected more folks after their brilliant show at Paredes de Coura. They were good enough, energetic and the (small) audience was responsive. A short but pleasing concert even though I wasn't in the best of moods.
