And we have to admit, these two go along in perfect harmony. The characters, the mellow mood, the weather...

More people though so and I went to explore what I thought was more than a mere internet meme.

First off, Belle is a character in Peanuts, one of his sisters:
Nevertheless Belle & Sebastian claim to have gotten their name from a French children's story. (I remember the cartoons on the TV, it had to be an anime based production of course, and I even have their book.)

There is a copy of the original Peanuts theme, with the same rhythm boxes and all, wandering around the Internet labeled as being played by Belle & Sebastian. It made it's way to Last.fm as you can see.

There are also references to a live cover performance of the Peanuts theme.

Finally, "Seeing other people" from Belle and Sebastian really does sound a lot like the Peanuts theme:

These last two points seem to be the only factual relationship between the two...
There is nothing better than the roots

... but you'll come to find out that these are rooted somewhere even more primal ;)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

And at a given point in the afternoon paradise comes to earth:

And the folks in the tribe, singing joyfully in an African prairie or a South Pacific island (the differences are more dim than we might think), are not fully naked but wear feathers over their most intimate parts.
